Performance doubled, availability assured
Blanco, in cooperation with the general contractor HEBER Fördertechnik, completely renewed the its existing parcel conveyor technology and took a significant step towards automation in the European logistics centre in Bruchsal. The renovation, including the integration of new processes, was carried out in six precisely planned stages so that ongoing operations were not disrupted. The result of the implemented catalogue of measures is an increase in throughput by 100 percent to approximately 10,000 cartons per day.
Site strengthened and equipped for further growth
The European logistics centre in Bruchsal, which went into operation in 2007, is practically the heart of Blancos international distribution. This makes fast processes with maximum reliability and flexibility all the more important. With the renewal of the parcel conveyor system and the simultaneous implementation of new processes, the company has now taken a further step towards meeting customer expectations even better than before. The modular design of the conveyor technology elements means that the system, which conveys the cartons at a speed of one metre per second, can be adapted and expanded to new tasks at any time in the future if necessary.
However, the human component is also of particular importance to logistics manager Thomas Ritter. Initially, the employees were very sceptical about the new technology. But these reservations quickly disappeared, because the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The level of acceptance today is correspondingly broad. For example, enormous relief could be achieved by the integrated gantry robot because it relieves people of physically heavy work without making jobs redundant.
